The first meeting of the Conservation and Heritage Working Group was held on 31st January. The group discussed a number of issues about the heritage of the area. Key points were: a concern for the character of the whole area, the view that there are many houses in the area that were only about 60 years old when the Conservation Areas were created in the 70s that are now over 100 years old, and a concern for the overall street scene (trees, walls, hedges, street furniture etc.) and not just the fabric of buildings.
The full notes of the meeting are available here as a PDF.
The next meeting will be on Thursday 28th February at 7.30 pm in the Glass Meeting Room at College Court.
The group agreed to walk round parts of the area looking at the street scene and the houses to get an understanding of what contributes to the character of the area. The first of these walks will be on Friday 15th February in the Kingsmead Road area, meeting at the bridge over the Wash Brook at the north end of Kingsmead Road at 2.00 pm. Other walks will be arranged at week-ends to enable a range of people to participate.
